Über unsere Wasserdichter Packsäcke

For a simple day trip, most paddlers get by with 10–20 liters for spare clothes, snacks, and small essentials. If you like to bring a camera or an extra layer, a 20–30 liter bag adds a bit more room without feeling bulky. The key is choosing a size that fits easily in your hatch or on your deck and still closes with a tight roll. Aim for just enough space, not excess.

A waterproof dry bag keeps your gear safe by sealing out water even when the waves get confused or the boat takes spray. The roll-top closure traps a pocket of air that helps the bag stay buoyant, and the coated fabric blocks moisture from pushing through under pressure. As long as you roll it tightly and avoid overpacking, your essentials stay dry even if the bag gets dragged through rough water or ends up overboard.

Durable dry bags are usually made from heavy-duty PVC or tightly woven nylon that’s coated with TPU. PVC handles abrasion well, while TPU-coated nylon stays flexible in cold conditions and resists cracking over time. What matters most is a tough fabric paired with welded seams and a reliable roll-top closure, because that’s what keeps water out when the bag is pushed against rocks or packed tight in the kayak.

A dry bag seals best when you roll the top at least three tight turns before clipping the buckle. Squeeze out excess air first so the fabric can fold cleanly, then roll straight down rather than twisting sideways. The material should feel firm, not strained, and the buckle should sit flat without gaps. If you’re packing for rough water, give the roll an extra turn for peace of mind.

For extra kayak gear, most paddlers rely on dry bags in the 10–20 liter range. Ten liters is enough for spare layers, snacks, or a compact first aid kit, while twenty liters handles bulkier clothing or a small stove without feeling awkward to pack. Choose a bag that fits easily through your hatches and can be compressed to avoid dead space. Roll the top tightly and squeeze out excess air so it nests cleanly alongside your regular kit.

For cold water trips, pack your dry bag with warmth and balance in mind. Keep spare layers in waterproof stuff sacks inside the bag so they stay dry even if you open it on the water. Place heavier items low and close to the kayak’s center to keep the boat steady. Add essentials like gloves, a hat, and a compact thermos where you can reach them quickly. Seal the bag tightly and squeeze out excess air so it stows cleanly.

A waterproof dry bag carries weight best when it’s packed with softer items that let the load settle evenly. The bag itself doesn’t add structure, so the balance comes from how you distribute your gear and how securely it’s tied down in the kayak. Keep heavier pieces low and close to the boat’s center to avoid unwanted sway on longer tours. Properly rolled and compressed, a good dry bag rides quietly and won’t shift even after hours on the water.

Rinse the bag thoroughly with fresh water as soon as you’re off the water, making sure salt and sand are flushed out of seams and the roll-top. Use mild soap only if needed, then let it air-dry completely with the closure open so moisture can escape. Avoid direct sun for long periods, as UV can stiffen the material. A simple freshwater rinse and a slow dry are usually all it takes to keep the fabric supple and the seal reliable.

Rinse the dry bag with fresh water, let it air-dry completely, and store it loosely rolled or unrolled in a cool, shaded place. Avoid compressing it for long periods, as constant pressure can weaken the fabric and stress the seams. Keep it away from heaters and direct sunlight to protect the coating. A little space and gentle handling between seasons will help the material stay flexible and reliable when you pack it again.

A dry bag stays visible when it uses bright, high‑contrast colors that stand out against open water. Large reflective panels or piping help a lot too, especially in low light, because they catch any beam from a headlamp or searchlight. Some paddlers also prefer bags with attachment points so they sit upright on deck and stay in sight. In the end, visibility is about being easy to spot when it matters.
